What is your book about?

Pixo Escapes is a dog's adventure story narrated by Pixo, a neurodivergent
Jack Russell, who is dyslexic, autistic, has ADHD and looks different. Pixo acts in what appear to be strange and unexpected ways that may make others feel uncertain. Pixo always carries his rubber toy doughnut in his mouth as a safety and comfort toy. One day, Pixo decides to have an adventure. After escaping grandad's garden, he finds himself by a road sign he's unable to read due to his dyslexia. The story is about how he overcomes his challenges and differences whilst enjoying hilarious adventures with his best friend, Hector, and a pack of local puppies.

Hector and the puppies have plenty of adventurous opportunities to use their collaborative problem-solving skills and rescue Pixo from a pretty tight spot, the story is about learning how important it is to have amazing friends who understand you and like you
for who you are.
The second section of my book are facts targeting adults and teachers. It contains information about autism, ADHD, dyslexia and differences shown in the story and discusses why Pixo acts the way he does.
What inspired me to write my book ?
I went for a walk with my sister in 2021 with Pixo on the Malvern hills and there was light snow and ice. Pixo had a nice coat to keep him warm, but he refused to wear it despite numerous attempts to keep it on him. This reminded me of how people with autism can have sensory issues relating to clothing and body temperature.
One day I woke up with the idea of writing a book about Pixo, not sure how this book would evolve. Then when writing the book I wanted young readers or listeners to have the
chance to read a story that was age appropriate but with a main character who is neurodivergent. I also wanted to include facts about autism, ADHD and dyslexia. I believe there is a market need for a children's book like mine. Neurodivergence is rapidly gaining public awareness and becoming a daily topic of conversation. I feel this is
the right time to get my book published.
What inspired me to become an author?
I had to think long and hard about this question. When I was about 22 years old, I had an aspiration to one day publish a book, but I was not sure of what I wanted to write about. The idea for the story came to me suddenly, and once I was inspired, I started my writing journey.
I felt that my lived experience of neurodivergence would help shape the book and inspire others; I did not want the book to just be a reading book; I wanted it to be interactive too as this would mean the book would be able to be used over and over again.
What do I think my future self would say about becoming an author?
Future author Daisy would look back on her writing journey and say it’s not about how long it took you; it's about what you learnt along the way. You never gave up and you learnt you can achieve what you set out to do, no matter how long the journey is.
Overcome the obstacles you face. If you don’t try, you will never know what you could achieve. Keep being brave so you can promote your book and talk about it in public. You could make Pixo the dog a household name.
